"When This Ends....."

Being a die hard fan of Greek mythology, the shores of Greece has always been my go-to whenever I decide to look up a word etymologically.

The word today is "HOPE". According to Wikipedia in very simple and relatable terms, Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one's life or the world at large. 

Now let's take a quick  journey to the ancient city of Greece; The personification of hope in Greek mythology is known as Elpis, Elpis first appeared in the story of Zeus (the sky and thunder god) and Prometheus (a titan and trickster). Prometheus stole fire from Zeus, which infuriated the supreme god who in turn created a box that contained all manners of evil , unbeknownst to the receiver of the box. 

Pandora (the first human woman created), opened this box after being warned not to, and unleashed a multitude of harmful spirits that inflicted plagues, diseases, and illnesses on mankind. Yes, this is where the famous phrase "Pandora's box" roots from. 

With the unravelling of events in recent times around the world, it wouldn't be far fetched to say maybe, just maybe someone somewhere has pulled a 'Pandora' on the world.  Although I know  for a fact that Donald Trump has a name for that 'someone somewhere'. 

The deed has been done we are living with these contents and have sworn to not go down at all but even if that reality becomes inevitable, we are determined to not go down without a fight so the world is fighting, world leaders, medical pactitionals, scientists, everyone is fighting so we do not get consumed by the contents of this box. 

"When this ends.....When this is all over......" , I know you have said this to yourself, seen it on various social media platforms and must have heard it been said over and over again. The world is afraid, we are shaken but we are holding on to one thing. One we have unconsciously expressed and are expressing through this phrase. 

We are all holding on to the last content of Pandora's box (yes, there was something good in there). Though Pandora hastened to close the box, only one thing was left behind, an unreleased healing spirit named Elpis. Only Elpis (Hope) remained promising to restore the world, heal afflictions and help bear times of great suffering. 

Hope did not fly away. Hope is still alive and waiting to restore but for now we keep saying "When This Ends...." for soon Hope will say back to us "It is over".
